The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby

My Rating: 6/5
GoodReads Rating: 3.82/5

The Great Gatsby
This book is possibly one of the most oddly entertaining, wistful books I have ever read in my life. 10/10, even if it is an odd book, I promise you read it, and you will NEVER forget about it
First of all

Overall Review

This is beautiful. The thing about this dream is, it's so metaphoric you don't even realize it. It's all about the American dream and the want for money and fame and class in every way. And here these people are who have everything that all Americans want, but they aren't happy.

Gatsby is the perfect example of this. He was everything a person could want, money, fame, kindness, class and an aura of scandal that leaves people thinking about him. Yet instead of this wonderful lovely man that you know he once was because of that ever so charming smile, you have the ghost a man throwing parties for utter strangers, quite completely miserable chasing the one thing that continued to escape him :love

When Gatsby was younger, him and Daisy were so in love. But then Gatsby left for war, and Daisy, who was big money, married Tom Buchanan, who was even bigger money. Now Gatsby's back, living right down the bay from Daisy's (not-so-happy happy) little family. TOm's having an affair, Daisy simply doesn't care. So the chase commences

Gatsby is rich now, possibly as rich as Daisy, but he doesn't have an actual name or please in society, but he still hopes Daisy loves him. He finally gets Daisy to say she still loves him, but he cannot get her to admit that she never loved Tom. So even if he got his wish, the love of his life, he can't ever truly get her because of her "love" for Tom, who is an unbearble ass, and Tom's refusal for a divorce. Gatsby wanted a love like they had in the past, but that's not possible.

And then *spoiler* Daisy kills Mrs. Wilson i think and you just start to think that people never really get what they deserve. And then Gatsby dies because Mrs. Wilson's husband found out that Gatsby's car killed his wife, even though Daisy was driving. No one knows that Daisy was driving and Gatsby gets murdered cold as if though he was the one at fault. Here, you KNOW, you completely break down and understand that it's a cruel, cruel world that doesn't belief in real karma and that the universe doesn't see equality as a government does. Even Nick, the narrator, despite his honesty came from a dishonest lineage of people paying off people. Because the only sincere person in the book, Jay Gatsby, was the person who ended up dead.

And another thought comes into play, did Gatsby really love Daisy? Or was he simply obsessed with the fame and money and elegance and Daisy was simply this in human form? That's something you have to decide.

So the American dream as most of us believe, isn't satisfied with a feeling of carefree-ness or class or "with enough money to have a nice car and enough whiskey to crash it." which is most definetly a misquoted john green opinion on this book. But, the American dream can only be satisfied with one thing: happiness.

my rambling thoughts

and I guess it really isn't fair. Some people get that moment in their lives where the stars align perfectly and the chance gets laid out right in front of them. They meet the right person or they walk  into the right place, and then they don't take it, the chance. And the people who wanted that opportunity, who wanted that one excuse to completely and drastically change their life and fall out of their routine cycle, never get it. So yeah. it sucks, it just really does.

Legend by Marie Lu

Legend by Marie Lu • Critics rating: 4.5/5 My Rating: 5/5 •

Synopsis ----------- Los Angeles, California Republic of America He is Day. The boy who walks in the
light. She is June. The girl who seeks her brother's killer. On the run and undercover, they meet by chance.
Irresistably drawn together, neither knows the other's past. But Day murdered June's brother. And she has sworn to avenge his death. • THE must-read dystopian thriller fiction for all teen fans of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Divergent by Veronica Roth. A brilliant re-imagining of Les Miserables, the series is set to be a global film sensation as CBS films have acquired rights to the trilogy. The Twilight Saga producers, Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, will produce •

5/5 LOVE LOVE LOVE this book, mostly because it revolves more around the entire idea of a dystopian society falling apart, "Trying to create a utopia always leads to an apocalypse" - me

A kickass female prodigy, a snarky but brillant golden criminal and a explosion of sparks (and actual firearms) waiting to happen.  The Republic is the large part of the country under a strict government rule, while the Colonies are the rebellion area out of the government's reach. The country is slowly destructing, at war with other countries and itself.

June is the Republic's prodigy, with a perfect score of her evaluation. She is taken through schooling and is in college wayyy before anyone her age. She is treasured and is on her way to becoming the best of the best.

When tragedy strikes, June is seeking vengeance on the Republic's most wanted criminal, Day. Day is smart (and yummy), too smart, especially for someone who ran away after failing his evaluation. How has a supposed failure managed to escape the eyes of the most highly trained soldiers, and will June be the one to bring him in, or is there more going on than meets the eye?
Hint: there is.

What I thought: This is actually one of my favorite books of all time. While i was waiting for Prodigy to come out, I read Legend 4 times and read Prodigy 3 times while waiting for Champion to come out. Marie Lu writes so completely in the moment. You are literally caught in that scene with the characters and there's no escaping until June and Day do. It's not unbearably long and has more action with witty remarks than a lot of the sappy YA out there. Definitely a great read for everyone. finished it in one sitting.

READ IT BASICALLY

enjoy loves

City Of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Let's be honest. How hasn't heard of City of Bones? Whether your
the box office fails (like me) or just a huge fan of the books (also like me)
City of Bones by Cassandra is a worldwide phenomenon. I absolutely
LOVED this book and this world. I know people say "its a copy of harry potter blah blah blah" but I honestly think that Clare has some creativity and writing skills in her.

Here's the goodreads synopsis:

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .
Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

This world is absolutely unique and like nothing you have ever read before.
Shadowhunters (despite the cheesy name) are these strong kick-butt nephilim, which are basically half angel-half human, and they fight to save humanity from demons and other horrible things.
Demons come in all forms and they can even make themselves look human. Only Shadowhunters can tell what's a demon, and even they have trouble some time.
The Shadowhunter world is hidden from mortals, or mundanes as we call them in the book.

When Clary Fray starts seeing all these muscled guys and girls killing what look like humans, she thinks she's going crazy, but she soon finds out that she is a Shadowhunter and that her mother has been keeping this from her all of her life.

But right as Clary finds out her true identity, Jocelyn Fray (Clary's mom) is kidnapped by Valentine, who is the villan in this story.
Valentine is looking for the Mortal Cup, which is the only way to make shadowhunters (besides the Shadowhunters having kids)
Now the Shadowhunters are also looking for the Mortal Cup and Valentine is convinced Clary's mom has it.
The Shadowhunters just want the Mortal Cup while Clary just wants her mom back.

With twists and turns you'll never expect, a totally amazing male lead and an awkward love triangle, this book is definitely one of my favs!

Intricate, humorous and amazing! 500 pages of perfection! Its a must-read!
